HFG Ferchland: "When it comes to thin-cutting, there's no alternative to WINTERSTEIGER"

As a specialist in the production of top layers for the parquet industry, veneer plywood and Mastercut sawn veneer, HFG Ferchland has long made a name for itself. The German company purchased its first WINTERSTEIGER thin-cutting frame saw already in its founding year of 1997 and has since gradually expanded the system. By now, a total of five machines are unceasingly cutting purchased sawn timber dried at HFG into raw lamellas for parquet top layers or sawn veneers. "For us there's no alternative to WINTERSTEIGER. The frame saws produce high-quality, which, of course, also speaks for our products," explains Managing Director Alexander Schöbel.

Three years ago, when WINTERSTEIGER incorporated the thin-cutting band saws in its line of products, HFG received the first DSB Singlehead. "The band saw's cutting is considerably more flexible than that of the frame saw. This is ideal particularly for small orders as there is virtually no time lost in change-over," says Schöbel. Another advantage is the thin-cutting band saw's smooth cutting - even of wet material.

The focus is on maximum yield.

When using the band saw, the quality of the wood is judged after each cut. HFG uses exclusively American and exotic woods - expensive raw materials indeed. "We therefore focus on the yield of wood. We need to get as much as possible from each piece, which is where the DSB Singlehead comes in handy," explains Schöbel. For the thin-cutting frame saw the feed is set to about 0.5 m/min.

The DSB Singlehead is run at 8 to 12 m/min. Also, the band saw does not require any preparatory work such as having to treat the wood on four sides. The maximum cutting width of the band saw at HFG is 310 mm; for frame saws, the width can be up to 400 mm. When processing standard goods, one employee is required for three frame saws. Using the thin-cutting band saw, HFG can now also offer rough sawn surfaces even for the band saw. For the German company, using the DSB Singlehead saves both time and personnel. HFG will, however, not part with its frame saw. "The combination of thin-cutting band saw and thin cutting frame saw is ideal. We are, however, considering replacing one of the frame saws with a further WINTERSTEIGER band saw," reveals Schöbel.

As a competence center for saws, WINTERSTEIGER has always relied on the combination of machine plus matching tools, thus offering saw blades for both frame and band saws from its own production. The tools are not only used at the WINTERSTEIGER facilities but also sold worldwide under the Banso brand und thus used in joineries, mobile saw mills, the food industry as well as for log band sawing machines and band resaws.
